Homocystinuria is an inherited condition involving the metabolism of the essential amino acid methionine, which is necessary for human growth and nitrogen balance. It involves a deficiency in any of a number of enzymes that play a role in converting methionine to cysteine. It is also associated with insufficient vitamin B12 (cobalamin) synthesis, an effect of defective reconversion of homocysteine to methionine.

Treatment directed toward preventing or lessening the symptoms of homocystinuria can include therapy with Vitamin B6 and supplementation with Vitamin B12 (cobalamin). Solace Nutrition has developed a concentrated, active vitamin B6 powder called VB6 5P5. The vitamin B6 in this formulation is in the soluble and highly bioavailable form of pyridoxal 5-phosphate (5P5).

In addition, our VB12MAX is an effective medical food that may assist in the dietary management of the disease. VB12MAX is a hydroxocobalamin (vitamin B12) liquid concentrate, with vitamin B12 present in the form of hydroxocobalamin acetate.
