Methylmyalonic Acidemia

Showing the single result

Methylmalonic acidemia refers to a set of inherited conditions involving mutations in several different genes, in which the body can't break down certain parts of proteins and fats. The result is a build-up of toxic compounds in the body, leading to attacks of serious illness called decompensation events or metabolic crises. Methylmalonic acidemia can occur alone or in combination with homocystinuria.

Research has shown that some subtypes of Methylmalonic acidemia respond to dietary vitamin B12 (cobalamin) administration. Solace Nutrition has developed an effective medical food that may assist in the dietary management of Methylmalonic acidemia, called VB12MAX. This product is a hydroxocobalamin (vitamin B12) liquid concentrate, with vitamin B12 delivered in the form of hydroxocobalamin acetate.
