Homocystinuria

Homocystinuria is an inherited condition involving the metabolism of the essential amino acid methionine, which is necessary for human growth and nitrogen balance. It involves a deficiency in any of a number of enzymes that play a role in converting methionine to cysteine. It is also associated with insufficient vitamin B12 (cobalamin) synthesis, an effect of defective reconversion of homocysteine to methionine.

Treatment directed toward preventing or lessening the symptoms of homocystinuria can include therapy with Vitamin B6. Solace Nutrition has developed a concentrated, active vitamin B6 powder - VB6 5P5. The vitamin B6 in this formulation is in the soluble and highly bioavailable form of pyridoxal 5-phosphate (5P5).
