Micronutrient Content of an Optimally Selected Ketogenic Diet(PDF Format) Presented at 2003 Food and American Dietetic Association's Food and Nutrition Conference San Antonio, Texas. The ketogenic diet has become a more common therapy for children with medically refractory seizures in recent years. The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, moderate protein, carbohydrate restricted diet that forces the body into a state of ketosis which serves to abate seizures.

Low-Carbohydrate Diets and ChildrenChildren need a healthy balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat to get the calories and nutrition they need every day. Although some parents may choose to cut carbs from their diet, this is not a good idea for children.
